How to set up your Universal Gravatar

What is an universal gravatar.
An “avatar” is an image that represents you online—a picture that appears next to your name or company when you interact with websites.

A Gravatar is a Globally Recognized Avatar. You create your profile just once and upload your picture of choice, and then when you participate in any Gravatar-enabled site, your Gravatar image will automatically follow you there.

Your Gravatar is an image that follows you from website to website attached to your author account when you do things like comment or post on a WordPress blog. Avatars help identify your posts on blogs and web forums, so why not on any site?

Setting up Gravatars on your site is easy; you don’t even need an account! Plugins are available for leading blog software and content management systems, and our tutorials will have you utilizing Gravatars in no time.

Millions of avatar images are being served over 8.6 billion times per day.

What is this important.

Your universal gravatar is not the same as your google authorship. Your gravatar will appear in WordPress control panels, WordPress blog comments and other areas like that. It is important to use the same picture so people can recognize you and your brand easily.

The gravatar is set up with your email that you use for your wordpress. This email is recommended to be a gmail email address so it is tied to your google + account, which is where the hub begins for your google authorship.

Your image should be universal with these accounts:

  • Gravatar
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • Google+ (which also takes care of my Authorship image)
